Journey To Justice Event
The Journey to Justice event at the amazing Liverpool Town Hall was an inspirational evening of conversation, empowerment, strength and hope. In collaboration with the charity JUSTICE , it reminded us all that Justice, is indeed, a journey - but with the right support, and adequate Access to Justice, it is achievable.
We are incredibly proud of Shane Smith from L.A.W who came along to talk about his journey, despite it being very out of his comfort zone. A typical scouser, he was caught up in antiquated immigration laws and a shameful system that left him facing a very long and dark journey. Us at L.A.W and the team at Liverpool John Moores University Legal Advice Centre are working to support shane to right this wrong.
Inspiring Visits to the Windrush Clinic
Liverpool Advocates for Windrush were delighted to join LJMU’s Windrush Clinic for a special visit from Councillor Nathalie Nicholas and Stephanie Hill of Leigh Day. Their insights into local government and judicial review were invaluable to our students and casework. Thank you both for your support and expertise!
Action for Race Equality (ARE)
Windrush Survivors, advocates, and campaigners gathered in parliment along side ARE to urge the government to ensure fairer, faster, and more just treatment, and a promise of legal aid, for those affected by the Windrush scandal. Survivors of the Home Office's Windrush ccandal, campaigners & policymakers spoke about the need for more *compassionate, considered, consistent & constructive engagement* with communities still dealing with the longstanding, and multigenerational consequences of the Scandal. Chaired by Florence Eshalomi MP and Paulette Hamilton MP, with MPs including Helen Hayes and Dawn Butler MP in attendance, along with UK Home Office Staff.
Clare Fletcher volunteering at the clinic!
Clare Fletcher, an internal head at a local firm who is leading on the Covid Enquiry, volunteers her time and expertise at the clinic. This visit resulted in additional support to a client through his UK Home Office application to address the significant impact that the Windrush Scandal had upon him. The fact that there is no hashtag legal aid to help victims navigate this process is shameful.

UKBlack Radio Show Interview
Our Co-Founder Tonika and LJMU Partner Rachel Stalker were interviewed in UKBlack where they shed light on the ongoing challenges faced by Windrush decendants and highlighted the vital need for accessible justice. Thank you Ngunan and Rachel both, on behalf of L.A.W.
Hearing stories of resilience and the devastating impact of unjust immigration policies makes it clear how important this collaboration is. LJMU’s School of Law is giving its students a unique opportunity to work directly with the community, making a tangible difference under expert supervision.
This partnership is more than just a legal service; it’s about righting historic wrongs, supporting affected families, and ensuring that access to justice isn’t just a promise but a reality. A huge well done to everyone involved! This marks a meaningful step forward for equality, recognition, and community empowerment. Here’s to many more initiatives like this, creating real and lasting change.
